Man Charged With Causing Serious Crash With Multiple Injuries

An out-of-area man was arrested on a warrant for allegedly causing a two-vehicle crash in Fairfield County that left several people with serious injuries.

Jesse Garcia-Mercado, 25, of Jersey City, New Jersey surrendered to the Stratford Police Department on Saturday, Oct. 5, as the result of a warrant for his involvement in a serious accident on the River Road in Stratford on July 20, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.

Following the crash,  investigators determined that Garcia–Mercado drove recklessly and caused the two-car crash which resulted in multiple injuries, Eannotti said.

Garcia-Mercado was charged with five counts of assault first-degree, four counts of assault three-third-degree, risk of injury to a minor, reckless driving, following too closely, and four counts of failure to wear a seatbelt.

He is being held on a $100,000 court issued bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Oct. 18.
